Class Composition Assignment

Make as many as 5 compositions (minimum 3)

Tools: paper, glue stick, and scissors.

Color paper:
3-5  white base sheets (approx: 8-1/2 x 11" )
1 black,  1 golden-yellow, and 1 deep red

Guidelines:
1. To create a sense of compositional unity emphasizing one of the following: proximity, repetition, or continuation.

2. The project should include five different geometric shapes:  for example a circle, square, triangle, and two rectangles (each very different in proportion).
There are to be a variety of shapes.
Avoid using symbols and or shapes that denote objects.
Keep it simple.

3. The project should be rendered with black or very dark-colored shapes that are glued (or painted) to the rendering surface. Students should be aware of the kinds of shapes created by the white or negative areas of the composition.

4. Shapes may be overlapped to create new and interesting shapes or they can “stand alone" with surrounding shapes and spaces.

Maximum 45 minutes
Clean up quickly - Critique afterward

Enjoy!
