Biography:
I was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota in 1947. I have always expressed myself with pencil, pen or paint and took every art class that was available to me. In my senior year of high school, my graphic design submission was chosen for the 1965 yearbook cover. Upon completion of my service in the Navy, I entered the San Diego Community College commercial art and illustration program receiving an AA degree in 1972. The following two years I spent my time studying at San Diego State University where I received a BA degree in fine arts. My emphasis was in painting and sculpture under the guidance of Jean Swiggett and John Rogers
My art related career was in graphic arts and illustration while in the Southern California aerospace industry. Some of my notable accomplishments were working with the space shuttle program, providing illustrations for the F-16 jet fighter flight simulator and being the senior lead illustrator at Qualcomm Inc. providing diagrams and illustrations in the satellite communications industry. Now that I have retired from the work a day world I’m focusing on fine arts painting and sculpture. I have recently relocated to Vancouver, WA where I am establishing myself in the local arts community
Artists Statement:
I like to think of myself as a “green” artist. Green in the sense that I reuse, reform or repurpose as many existing materials and products as possible. I see old or unwanted products and materials as elements I will utilize in my art. In this way I give a new life to objects and materials, thus extending their functionality beyond the original intended use. I enjoy giving people unique visual experiences not seen in everyday life. I strive to achieve good design and to find harmony between composition and balance in my work believing that “less is more.” With my graphics background I find myself making strong simple statements in my work capturing the viewer’s attention. Since I utilize a variety of materials, objects and products in my work, I am limited only by my own imagination.
