Fees cover teaching costs, classroom studio supplies, handouts, and images.
Students will work on projects in class with provided materials but will finish some work on their own.
A supplies list will detail the materials needed to complete projects at home.
A percentage goes to TheARTSCentered
The balance is due at the first class
(Instruction is not taxed in Washington State).
Overview of Class:
We will explore a “Triangle of Art Theory,” which includes art theory, history, vocabulary, and practical applications, supported by art criticism.
We will explore at least ten fundamental concepts of art and design, culminating in a final project.
Instruction will involve lectures, slide presentations, some individual research, practical art sessions, group discussions, and critiques.
Classes include:
Students will engage in a progressively challenging creative process and become proficient in art and design tools, methods, and terminology.
Who can join:
- No prior art training is a prerequisite, a serious and strong interest is recommended.
Areas of discussion:
We will analyze how art influences and preserves history and culture, using the language of art to derive meaning and evaluate artworks.
Connections between art, personal experiences, and the wider world will also be emphasized.
Outcomes:
Students will create artwork based on various art concepts. As some artwork may not be completed during class time, students are expected to complete it as homework.
Students will receive a list of materials during the first class. They will complete projects at home and bring some materials to class.
Dress: Appropriate clothing for painting should be worn.
